MankindKonecxion Part I: A Collection of Deep Jazzy Breaks 4rm The Vault
January 03, 2012 04:04 PM PST
The MankindKonexion Part I
The CD is 46min of pure pleasure paying tribute to some game changers of note who continue to reign supreme in broken beats inspired by jazz elements and a touch of electronica. The compilation is divided seamlessly in two, starting off the first half with classy deep jazzed breaks and ending off with rare deep broken/house inspired by the nujazz sound. Atjazz starts off the journey with his timeless 1998 “Wind And Sea (Night Spirits Mix)". The song has a cool, jazzy and lazy funk style about it which is all laid over a pretty good broken beat. Jones follows with, “Royal Congas” given a facelift by Jimpster with seamless deep clear-cut breaks leading nicely into “Chopped” by Moe Hairlines; a track that always gets its presence felt through its sharp and playful keys that come across like an improvisation. Little Big Bee's "Searchin'" is a song that's so good, yet so hard for some to fit into a mix. I think it's because there's sophistication in Atjazz's remix which makes it hard to peg as a pure jazz-house/deep house cut. But it actually works as a perfect bridge into the first vocal track complimenting its baseline and guitar vibes - “I Should Forget You” a Dynamic 4 piece revisited by the Barrio Jazz Gang. The song does really show that nujazz and breaks can create an infectious rhythm that will still linger in your eardrums after a timeless journey of music with substance. Fauna Flash fits in smoothly into the mix bringing in an element of fusion taken from the “Confusion - The Fusion Mixes” this one revisited by the distinctive Kyoto Jazz Massive with “Ten”. The underrated yet versatile Minus 8 comes on display with “Come Along, Again” a deep underground feel vibrating between house and broken beat; this one can easily take you into the midnight hours. The journey ends off with Amp Fiddler a true game changer who has worked with an array of musical talents around the world, this time he teams up with Patchworks on a total gem “Sugar” one that will leave you wanting more…Enjoy!

About katiso matabolaKatiso, well known as 'Katzz' is a unique, captivating and talented young DJ with passion for jazz music.Katiso has developed musically from a diverse background of mixed cultures. He began listenning to jazz and house music at a tender age of 10.He started playing as a dj at age 14 with his father's HIFI-system , later taking up CD players with no pitching or speed control and at age 16 he started experimenting with turntables.Katiso says that practicing with a single turntable and a CD plyer was not easy but helped to developed his mixing skills as it sharpened his listening and timing.Although he only had one turntable he managed to get gigs, playing for free at his friend's house parties and organising school parties.Soon he became popular for his timeless selections of deep-soulful-jazzy house tunes that kept the masses glued to the dancefloor. Katiso began playing with at CDJ'S at 16 and ever since then, collecting music has become his second nature.A talented DJ who enjoys many kinds of music, ranging from music played live,or with traditional instruments to electronic.Katiso's sound draws its influences from Brazilian music mixed with jazz and club,nujazz,lounge,bossa,afro-soul,acid jazz, deep house and global music.Katzz is inspired by great music pioneers such as Jazzanova,Fertileground,Incognito,Fragmentorchestra,St.Germain,Roy Ayers,Koyoto Jazz Massive and Metropolitan Jazz Affair to name but a few. After recording many demos and mixes in his 'lab',Katiso soon lended himself his first job as a resident at spots such as 88Lounge,Capellos and Buzz9 and this opened more doors for him as he soon took the airwaves by storm playing on well-known radio shows on MetroFM,KayaFM and 5FM.For those curious of what will come next all we can say is that in the same manner that bossanova, latin, soul jazz and nu-jazz has influenced the first Inspirations mix,he will not dissapoint. But for the meantime set yourself free and be inspired by the timless selections by Katzz.
